2010 Slovenia Green Bike Tour Participants

David Osterberg:

David is founder and director of the Iowa Policy Project, a nonprofit that provides fact-based analysis to engage Iowans in a discussion about public policy on the environment, the state budget and economic opportunity. He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of Iowa. Osterberg is a former Democratic state representative who was chairman of the House Energy and Environmental Protection Committee as well as the Agriculture Committee. He was the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1998 and worked as special energy consultant to the Director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Osterberg holds advanced degrees in Water Resources Management and Agricultural Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison

John Moreland:
John has worked on the state staff for Senator Harkin for the past 16 years providing constituent services in the areas of natural resource protection, rural infrastructure and agricultural production and marketing. He has assisted Senator Harkin in his leadership role in developing federal policy to encourage environmentally-sustainable farming practices and the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency systems on the farm. His interests also include food security issues and the promotion of nutrition and physical fitness.

Joe Bolkcom:
Joe is an Iowa State Senator, representing Iowa City, Iowa. Joe is also the Outreach and Community Education Director for the University of Iowa, Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research. The Center promotes interdisciplinary efforts that focus on global environmental change. Faculty members are involved in air, water quality and climate change research. His environmental interests include energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate change, water quality and toxic chemicals in the environment.

Edward Woolsey:
Ed is a small business owner, President, Green Prairie Energy LLC. Ed has worked in the renewable energy industry for the past 30 years since receiving his Masters degree from the University of Iowa. During that time he has farmed, designed and built an automated ethanol plant, was Iowa’s State Renewable Energy program manager, managed U.S. Department of Energy sponsored switchgrass biomass projects. Ed has worked actively in Iowa renewable energy policy for last 15 years, and is now one of Iowa’s first Wind Energy Farmers owning and managing a Suzlon 2.1 mW wind turbine. His environmental interests include renewable energy, climate change, sustainable farming and environmental policy. Ed is a Board of Directors member of the Iowa Environmental Council and the Des Moines chapter of the Izaak Walton League of Iowa.
